New Smyrna Beach

We arrived Sunday afternoon at the small city marina in New Smyrna Beach. After Titusville and Fort Pierce we were surprised at the size. But it was an okay marina and the price was right! After getting settled we walked through the very quaint downtown. There were many nice shops and little restaurants but unfortunately since it was Sunday very few places were opened. We elected to skip eating lunch out and went back to the boat. That evening we walked over to the Smyrna Marina and had dinner at a great restaurant! The almost three mile walk there and back did us good- even though it was kind of hot! We are hoping that when we pass by here in the Fall our friends Nick and Pat Lavato will be back to their Winter Home!

Downtown New Smyrna Beach

Across from the marina is what looks like the remains of an old fort. But one of the gentlemen who was there showing his family around, said this is the remains of a house that was built on the site where the British defended themselves against the Spanish and then the Colonists.

Interesting Railroad Bridge that is always in the up position unless a train is coming. The bridge is unmanned but when a train is coming and is 6 miles away it will automatically come down. I was concerned about boats that were already transiting through and it would go down but we have not read of any problems!

This was one of the head boats catch that came into the New Smyrna Marina when we walked the docks after dinner. While there were a lot of the dolphin (known in restaurants as Mahi-Mahi not Flipper!)

This was the first time seeing this type of pelican. They would wait very patiently while the catch was being cleaned and the fishermen would throw guts and other nasties into the water. The pelicans had to compete with the very aggressive catfish all around! (Sorry picture is sideways can't get it edited!)

This was the catch off a head boat that came in right across from our boat. Quite the haul!

Beautiful Lady Catherine a Trumpy coming into our dock.
